Everyone loves a good wedding and more so everyone loves a great bridal shower. The Bride-to-Be gets showered with gifts of love for the new journey she has decided to take on and you get the chance to share that experience with her. A well run Bridal Shower, will at least one month before the bridal shower, have composed a Bridal Registry of the items she and her new partner to be need to help set them up for the future.

However, Bridal Registry's have been known as a cause of concern for many people going to a bridal shower simply because many of the gifts requested are beyond the ability of the guests to buy. So the question now is, "Do I have to Buy a Gift From The Bridal Registry for the Bridal Shower?"

The correct protocol answer is "YES" and "NO".

Unless you were invited to a Royal wedding there is no protocol that says you must only buy from the bridal registry however there are a few things to consider.

1. The Role of the Bridal Registry

The role of the bridal registry is simply to tell you what the couple needs in moving forward with their lives together. This is a great insight as to their needs and in away makes it easier for you to buy a gift that they will appreciate. From my wife's bridal shower there were gifts that were really, well poorly chosen and for a couple it is then difficult to know what to do with those items. However, the down side is that often many items brides-to-be put on their Bridal Registry are well and truly out of the range of the people coming.

2. Give What You Can Afford

The reality is that when you are invited to a bridal shower, the honour is as much for you as it is for the bride-to-be, so the correct protocol is that you provide a gift that is inline with what you can afford. For example it would be inappropriate for a person to give a five dollar gift when they earn one million dollars a year but at the same time, it would be inappropriate for someone to spend $1,000 for a gift when they only earn $500 a week. Gift giving must be in proportion to your own financial capacity. There is no point in you going in to debt for a gift, it just simply doesn't make sense.

3. Give Something From The Heart

For many brides, the most precious gift is something treasured from you. For example the best gift from a mother might be Grandmas broach that she wore when she go married. Always give something that means something to you as much as her. This is always the best gift and one that can be treasured for years to come. For many brides being able to pass something like this from generation to generation is just as special as that 50" Plasma Television that will wear out in 12 months anyway.

Over the last ten years with our economies booming, too many people have tried to out spend each other when it comes to giving gifts for Bridal Showers. The key to giving the right gift is to give something from the heart. If giving the bride-to-be a 55" Plasma Television is something from the heart is the right gift then do it, but if buying a $50 bracelet that she can wear on the day is special to you then that is the right gift for her.
